Birrell & Newmark, Ltd. is a firm of trial lawyers who apply their substantial trial skills, experience and resources in a variety of litigaion areas. Senior partner, Andrew Birrell, and others founded what would become Birrell & Newmark, Ltd. in 1989. Since its inception, the firm's core practices have been personal injury and criminal defense litigation. Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine, and Minnesota Law and Politics named Andrew Birrell one of the top 100 "Super Lawyers" in Minnesota based on a statewide survey of Minnesota Lawyers. Eric Newmark was also named a "Super Lawyer" and a "Top 40" criminal defense lawyer based on the same statewide survey.

In the criminal defense area, we have obtained jury acquittals for our clients in both Federal and State Court cases where the charge was first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, criminal sexual conduct, criminal vehicular operation, theft, adulteration of food, federal law violations and in many other cases.

Throughout the years, we have enjoyed extensive success in thousands of personal injury matters and achieved results for clients in individual cases in excess of one million dollars through both settlement and trial.

We have also successfully represented our clients in the Courts of Appeals in various civil matters, including defending verdicts we have obtained for them at trial. On the criminal law side, we have won reversals of convictions and obtained orders for new trials in both the Minnesota Court of Appeals and the Minnesota Supreme Court, and have also argued before the United States Supreme Court. Andrew Birrell has been recognized as being in the top 15 appellate lawyers in Minnesota by Minnesota Law and Politics Magazine.
